What is Cub Scouting?

Scouting, as a worldwide brotherhood, is unique and different.  It is based on the principles of  Duty to God and Country, Human Dignity and the rights of individuals, and the obligations of all members to develop and use their potential.  It is a movement that brings out the best in people.  It is one of the few programs in the world today where the emphasis is not on winning as an end result, but on the far more demanding task of "doing one's best."

Parents Role in Scouting?

Parents of Scouts play a huge role in the progress and success of their son.  In fact, most parents don't know that they are THE key to a boys progress within the organization.  Scout leaders can only do so much.  It is the family, particularly the parents who make the experience accomplishable.

Organizations benefit a great deal from the resources a parent can provide as well.  Well-presented ideas, quality time, and financial aids promote the success of a troop a great deal.

The first rank that EVERY boy earns when entering the Cub Scouting Program is the Bobcat rank. These requirements are meant to demonstrate that the boy is making a commitment to participating in the scouting program.

Scouting Programs

Pack 990 offers a year-round family and home centered program for 1st - 5th graders.

  Tiger Cubs
is a program that encourages the ethical decision-making skills for first-grade (or 7-year-old) boys. These boys participate in the program with their adult partners. The program emphasizes shared leadership, learning about the community, and family understanding.

Cub Scouts is a program that develops ethical decision-making skills for boys in the second through fifth grade (or who are 8, 9, and 10 years old). Activities emphasize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness.

Webelos Scouts is a program that develops ethical decision-making skills for fourth- and fifth-grade (or 10-year-old) boys. Webelos Scouts participate in more advanced activities that begin to prepare them to become Boy Scouts.

Boy Scouting.  A year-round program for boys 11 through 17 designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster. (Boys also may become Boy Scouts if they are 10 years old and have earned the Cub Scouting Arrow of Light Award or have completed the fifth grade.)

Varsity Scouting.  An active, exciting, year-round program for young men 14 through 17 built around five program fields of emphasis: advancement, personal development, service, high adventure, and special programs and events.

Venturing.  A year-round program for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age to provide positive experiences through exciting and meaningful youth-run activities that help them pursue their special interests, develop leadership skills, and grow by teaching others.
